Gone With the Wind was the first movie ever made that had promotional products produced that were for sale to the general public. Some of the most popular items were the Lux Soap jewelry pieces made by Ricarde of Hollywood. Ricarde is known to have duplicated five different sets of jewelry from GWTW, which was worn by Scarlett, Belle and Mammy.
The Gone With the Wind items included premiums that were made in 1939-40 for the Lux soap company which were available for 15c and a box top from Lux Soap. The most commonly found of these premium items are the plastic Cameo Brooch (as worn by Scarlett) and the faux Turquoise and Pearl Brooch (worn by Mammy). There were five sets of GWTW jewelry made by Ricarde from 1939 to 1940 and were sold at the Davison-Paxon Department stores. Set pieces included: brooch pins; necklaces; rings; pendants; earrings and bracelets. Ricarde pieces are quite rare today as they were made of cheap materials and not made to last, however we strive to only offer pieces in good to excellent condition.
Other rare items from the 1940's that we offer include GWTW Book Lockets which were made into brooch pins, necklaces and bracelets. We try to carry as many of these rare and unique jewelry items as we can find but they sell fast. So if you are a vintage GWTW jewelry collector, check back often to see what new jewels we have found.
